Statistics:

  • Started: Walenstadt @ 08:15
  • Finished: Ziegelbrücke @ 15:00
  • Distance: ca. 25km (~15.5 miles)
  • Elevation: ↗︎ 978m , ↘︎ 996m

Last Saturday I wanted to test a little if I was totally over-optimistic in thinking that we can hike 30km+ on the Te Araroa this fall. The higher regions of Switzerland are still quite cold and partially snowy and also it was supposed to rain in the afternoon. So I chose a path that I wanted to hike on since a long time: along the Walensee, a lake in Switzerland next to a steep rising mountain range, the Churfirsten. There are some little places that are only reachable by boat (or by foot), as there is no street on that side of the lake.

There is a nice description of the tour here outdooractive.com: von-walenstadt-nach-weesen (German)

Usually you can end the hike in Weesen and take a bus to the next train station. But I wanted to test my endurance, so I walked the remaining ~2km to the next train statin in Ziegelbrücke and I really enjoyed that last bit of the walk as well.

Starting in cute old Walenstadt...

The track passes the Seerenbachfälle (waterfalls) that are sourced from an underground river inside the mountain. Looked pretty amazing to me.

We are Leah and Mathias and were taking year off starting in July 2019 to spend time with family, travel and be out in nature.
Our big goal was to walk the Te Araroa trail in New Zealand, but we continue to sometimes post on this website and hope you enjoy the stories we share. Feel free to send us your comments.
... and yes, we know about the double meaning of the website name. 🤓
